Isaiah 6:8 — Then I heard the Lord asking, “Whom should I send as a messenger to this people? Who will go for us?” I said, “Here I am. Send me.”

A few years ago, if you had told me girls’ flag football would become one of the fastest-growing sports in America, I probably would have laughed.

I always wanted to play sports with my boy cousins. But no… girls didn’t play football.

Well, things have changed.

Nearly 70,000 girls are playing now. States like New Jersey are making it an official championship-level high school sport, and it’s even headed to the Olympics.

I love that.

Because somewhere right now, there’s a girl who could have stayed in the stands. Instead, she decided to step onto the field, run the route, call the play, and take the risk.

But I wonder how often we do the opposite with our faith.

We watch other people live boldly and think, They’re the ones who know what they’re doing. They’re the ones who make a difference. They’re the ones God chooses.

Meanwhile, we stay on the sidelines.

But Scripture tells a different story.

David was out tending sheep when God called him. Esther was afraid, yet she stepped into the king’s presence when everything was at stake. Peter was impulsive and imperfect, and Jesus still called him to follow.

God has never required His people to have everything figured out before stepping onto the field.

In Isaiah 6, Isaiah encounters God and realizes that God is calling him, too. And his response isn’t, “Send someone else.”

Nope.

“Here I am. Send me.”

It’s almost like Isaiah is saying, Put me in, Coach.

Friend, faith isn’t about knowing exactly what to do. Maybe today you feel unqualified. Maybe you’ve been watching someone else live the kind of faith you wish you had and wondering if God could really use you.

You don’t have to sit in the stands.

God has a purpose for ordinary people, and He still invites you and me to participate in what He is doing.

So let’s step onto the field.

“Here I am, Lord. Send me.”

A MOMENT TO REFLECT

  • Where in your life might you be standing on the sidelines because you feel unqualified, afraid, or unsure?
  • What do you think God may be inviting you to step into right now?
  • Whose faith have you admired from a distance, and what might it look like for you to take one small step of faith yourself?
  • What would it look like for you to sincerely pray, “Here I am, Lord. Send me”?
  • What is one step you could take today to move from watching to participating in what God is doing?

Isaiah 6:8 – And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.”

Eighth grade was a big year for me.

It was the summer I found myself kneeling under a tree at youth camp. I was far enough away from the noise to think yet close enough to still hear the music drifting from the chapel.

I did not know how to pray the right way. I just knew I needed to talk to the One who made all of this—the trees, the sky, and somehow, even me.

I remember looking up and saying, “God, I know You’re the Creator of all things. I have no idea if You can even hear me, but I’m available.”

I meant it. Every word.

When I went back to school that fall, the world around me looked the same—rows of lockers, math homework, everyday middle school chaos. But inside, something had shifted. I began talking to God more in private. Again, my prayers were not eloquent. Most days, they were just raw honesty. Still, I kept showing up and kept staying open.

Years have passed since that summer, but I still remember what it felt like to pray that first real prayer. Today, I get to write songs that help people talk to God. That still stuns me. Not because I think I have earned it, but because it reminds me how powerful one simple moment of surrender can be.

Most of the songs I write are still just prayers like the one under that tree.

Maybe that is the point. So, if you are wondering what comes next or whether God still has something for you, start there.

Get honest. Get still. Ask Him what He wants.

You do not have to map it all out. You just have to stay open. The Creator who made you already knows exactly what He’s doing.

He always has, and He always will.

LYRICS:

Verse 1
A thousand generations falling down in worship
To sing the song of ages to the Lamb
And all who’ve gone before us and all who will believe
Will sing the song of ages to the Lamb

Pre-Chorus 1
Your name is the highest
Your name is the greatest
Your name stands above them all
All thrones and dominions
All powers and positions
Your name stands above them all

Half-Chorus
And the angels cry, Holy
All creation cries, Holy
You are lifted high, Holy
Holy forever

Verse 2
If you’ve been forgiven and if you’ve been redeemed
Sing the song forever to the Lamb
If you walk in freedom and if you bear His name
Sing the song forever to the Lamb
We’ll sing the song forever and amen

Hear your people sing, Holy
To the King of Kings, Holy
You will always be, Holy
Holy forever
