When Prayer Goes to Work

,

2 Chronicles 7:14 — If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.

I witnessed something last year that still makes me tear up.

Up in West Carroll Parish, around the Epps and Monticello area, there’s a farmer named Josh Ward.

He was working on a disc when a piece of metal flew into his eye and caused a severe injury.

And the timing couldn’t have been worse.

It was harvest season, and Josh couldn’t drive a combine.

So they prayed.

And then something unforgettable happened.

About a dozen other farmers showed up to help him.

Some brought combines and grain bins. Others brought their trucks.

These men had their own farms to worry about. Their own crops. Their own harvest.

But they saddled up and went to work getting Josh’s rice out of the field.

When I think about that story, I’m reminded of an old biblical picture.

In 2 Chronicles, God tells His people to humble themselves, pray, seek Him, and turn back toward Him.

And there’s something beautiful about what happens when people do that.

They stop looking only at themselves.

They turn toward God.

They pray.

They trust Him.

And sometimes, the answer to a prayer looks a whole lot like people showing up.

I truly believe Josh’s prayers put boots on the ground.

Maybe you’ve been praying for someone, too.

Maybe you’ve been asking God to intervene in a situation you can’t fix.

So, friend, keep praying.

But then look around.

Because sometimes we pray for God to move, and we’re watching the sky for an answer…

while God is already putting people in motion.

Maybe the answer is a phone call.

Maybe it’s a friend who shows up.

Maybe it’s a stranger who offers exactly what you need.

Maybe it’s a dozen farmers bringing their equipment to help you harvest a field you couldn’t harvest by yourself.

You never really know how God might answer a prayer.

So keep praying.

Keep seeking Him.

And keep your eyes open.

Because the answer may already be on its way down the road…

with boots on the ground.

A MOMENT TO REFLECT

  • Is there someone or something you’ve been praying about for a long time? What would it look like to keep trusting God with it?
  • Have you ever experienced an answer to prayer that came through another person? What did that teach you about God?
  • Is there someone around you right now who may need you to be the “boots on the ground” in their life?
  • What might change if, while you’re praying, you also started looking for the ways God may already be moving?
  • Where is God inviting you to humble yourself, seek Him, and trust Him rather than trying to carry everything on your own?

QUESTION TO CARRY WITH YOU TODAY

Who might God be asking me to show up for today—and am I willing to be the answer to someone else’s prayer?
