Nominee Stories

Why She’s Worth It

Julia is the hardest working person I know. She shows up for not only her kids and family, but also for her friends. She is such an inspiration and someone I strive to be like daily. I think she should be honored every mothers day for the special human she is. God is the center of her and her families lives and you can tell. She is thoughtful and kind and always striving to be a better friend and mother and wife and I love her for that.

Julia AllenNominated by Brooke Daniels

Well for one she’s my mom, but she’s had such a hard life. She says the moment I came into this world, it all changed. Even though we’re struggling right now, she does her best to make my life a million times better! She will always be my mom and I love her so much.

Betsy LudlamNominated by Brent Williams

My mom is the definition of what a Great woman mom & wife is. Growing up I can remember her shoes having holes in them because she had been wearing them for years . She never bought herself anything because she was always doing for her kids n husband. She has always held our family together no matter what. Now she helps me with my daughter bc I’m a single mom. I wouldn’t be the woman I am today without her she has taught me everything I know about being a strong woman.

Sherry FosterNominated by Heather Aaron

Chandler is the most fun, kind, caring mom I know. She lost her daughter Olivia a few years ago and just watching the strength and faith she has after that has been such an inspiration. She puts God first in her life and it shows. She is one of my best friends and such an amazing mom and I think she should be honored in the most special ways every mothers day!

Chandler GaiennieNominated by Brooke Daniels

The lyrics from “We Are Messengers,”God Be The Glory” is a better way to describe my mother, Rev. Brenda Gaston-Porter. My mother has been on Dialysis for a little over 4 years. When my mom told her family that she’ll have to be on Dialysis, I cried EVERYDAY for weeks, I didn’t let her see my tears, I didn’t want to upset her or put more added stress upon her. After witnessing my sister, Katina being on Dialysis 28 years and what she went through for so many years, I was scared….. I “LOVE”, “CARE” and “WORRY” about my mother, seeing the weakness, tiredness, loss of appetite, weight loss, curved disposition, changes in her eyesight, the many bruises and large knots forming on her outer skin, weakness in both leg, swollen feet, ankles, hands, lots of restless and sleepless nights.

Though the road was tough, taken its toll (EMOTIONALLY and PHYSICALLY) my mother kept PUSHING!!! NEVER GAVE UP!! Continuously growing STRONGER in Jesus’ Name. But through it ALL!!! and amid all the past struggles, pain of losing and burying her daughter, Katina (two years ago December 2023), past surgeries, two separate heart attacks back-to-back within the same year(2023). God is STILL a HEALER, yesterday, today, tomorrow, always, forever and a day … A God-fearing, Christian woman who TRULY, TRULY, TRULY LOVES THE LORD!!! and that’s what I admire most about my mother… She’s an “Inspiration” to sooooo many she meet…. “TOUGH, COURAGEOUS, GORGEOUS” inside and out and “LOVED”. So not only is my Beautiful Mother, Pastor Brenda Gaston-Porter, Worth It!! She’s a Living Testimony of It!!.. For it is the Lord who gets ALL the “GLORY” “HONOR” and “PRAISE” out of her story….”To God Be the Glory”

Brenda Gaston-Porter Nominated by Evelyn Hardmon

Michelle is the mom I have never had before. Even tho I’m just her daughter-in-law, she has called me her daughter that she never had since day one. She is the best prayer warrior anyone could ever have. She has helped me tremendously through all my struggles.

I couldn’t ask for another mom ❤.

MichelleNominated by a Friend

My mom sacrifices so much of her time and energy to bless others. She has always worked hard and excelled at anything for which she was responsible. She often works several jobs, many of which involve caring for others. For instance, she currently works with children as a school employee, babysits her 1-year old grandson and has since his birth, and has served as primary caretaker for a woman with special needs for nearly 2 decades.

As a child, she overcame a lot of hardships. Then she was intentional when raising her 3 grown children. When a family member needs help, she’s ready to help with any practical needs. Many times, she and my dad have housed and physically cared for a parent or sibling in their home for months or years at a time. They both attend every sporting event or extra-curricular activity that they can for their 4 grandchildren. They garden, cook, host small holiday events, and keep their home and finances in order by working with integrity.

My mother gets prettier with every passing year. In a few short weeks, she will reluctantly be having her second knee surgery, and it will be hard for her to focus on her own needs and healing for a while. I’d love for her to receive something that says, “You are seen and appreciated”. Thank you for this opportunity.

Pam TannerNominated by Crystal Dillard

She is very selfless always puts other before herself. She always carries a smile even if she is having a bad day. I lost my mom in 2008 and she has always thought of me as her daughter. She is actually my mother-in-law. She is the best!

Sherri CoxNominated by Mary Sledge

This Mother’s Day will be especially tough for my grandmother, Elvin Carter. It will be the first without her youngest child. She is on the mend now, but the past couple of years have been very trying. She was hospitalized multiple times with back-to-back sicknesses, and within the past year, she has lost a son and two of her grandchildren.

She is an independent lady, an avid reader, and makes certain to read her Bible daily and attends church every chance she gets. She raised her family in the church, and tells them “I pray for you every night”. She strives to be fair and is grateful to those who help her. She takes pride in her appearance, typically matching jewelry and shoes to her outfits.

As a child, her family struggled, especially after the death of her mother when she was extremely young. Elvin learned very early how to cook and help care for her siblings. She is retired now, but often worked more than one job at a time and was loyal to her employers, where she usually served in managerial positions. She believes if you see something that needs to be done, you do it.

She would be ecstatic to receive a prize from 88.7 as a recognition for her life well-lived as a mother.

Elvin CarterNominated by Crystal Dillard

My mom is my absolute best friend! Growing up she pushed to be our best in everything that we did. She held my hand the day my daughter was born, through every complication that happened that day she reminded me that God is good and He loves me! She prays for my family and our relationship with God daily and I am so thankful for her and everything that she does!

Kandi HuberNominated by Kassidee Huber

In a few words, she’s my best friend. In a lot of words, she’s the most caring, hardworking, and selfless human I know. She takes care of everyone like it’s her job and she does it because she cares so much and has such a huge heart. She is always there, we now live hours away from one another but she makes time for me every day, multiple times a day. She is my prayer warrior. She never misses an opportunity to remind me that God is in control. She is so very important to me and she deserves the world.

Mary SledgeNominated by KayLee Edwards

She is the BEST mom and Nonnie! She loves selflessly and will do anything for anyone. She is a fighter, as she has beat breast cancer twice. She loves to cook for her family, especially sweet treats. I think she’s worth celebrating EVERYDAY!

Linda UltzschNominated by Gina Ultzsch Edmondson

I’m nominating my mom because she is a very special and compassionate woman. She has a heart the size of this world and has helped so many people. My mom has put up with a lot from me in my lifetime and always had my back. I just want her to know that I love her and happy Mother’s Day to her.

Effie WrightNominated by Ken Wright

She’s so selfless, loving and servant hearted. She pours out so much that she needs to be poured into. She has been struggling and she deserves the world!

Deri GayleNominated by Kory Gayle

Well let me tell you about my mom Kathy. She is a mom of 5 kids, 2 girls and 3 boys. She has 17 grandkids and 7 of them live with her and she is helping raise them. She is a devoted wife of 49 years and the best momma anyone could ask for.

She is humble and kind always doing for others and never ask for anything in return. My mom is as genuine as they come.

I would love for her to win this and to let her know that everything she does for everyone does not go unnoticed. I want her to know that I nominated her for this because you exceed at being a mother and grandmother. I appreciate all that she does for the family. She is always there for you if you need anything. I appreciate you and I love you.

BEST MAMAW AND MOM EVER!! WE LOVE YOU

Kathy SimmsNominated by Rhonda McCann

Tori is my cousin and will be a first time mom come August. Tori is like a sister to me and is truly an amazing person and friend. She is selfless and giving. She radiates joy and love wherever she goes. She works so hard and has overcome so many obstacles in her life to get where she is today and instead of letting all of those things hold her back, she embraces all of the not so great things in her life and allows them to be used in a positive way. I’m so very thankful that I’ve gotten a front row seat to her life and I cannot wait to see her be the most phenomenal mother. She already is the most amazing mom to her unborn baby girl, I’ve been amazed by her drive to be the best version of herself in every way. She has had such an impact on my life and she deserves to be recognized not only today but every single day.

Victoria KennedyNominated by KayLee Edwards

I am nominating my mom who is a very special woman she is a single mom who raised me and my three siblings by herself our whole life and has never failed us. Not only is she my mom but she is also known as mom by several of our friends who she has always treated and loved just as much we are so grateful to have her!

Danille CaigleNominated by Emmafie Reeves

The song by Anne Wilson, “Mamas”, states for the phone call “Don’t forget I’m always in your corner”. No matter what she’s always one call away. She’s always has a listening ear and will give you her best advice.
