Comfortable Isn’t Always Better

Psalm 143:8 — Let me hear of your unfailing love each morning, for I am trusting you. Show me where to walk, for I give myself to you.

Ever notice how the older we get, the more we like things just so?

We sit in the same seat.

We follow the same routine.

We order the same thing at the restaurant.

And we don’t really like surprises.

Well… unless it’s a surprise gift or dessert. Those are always welcome.

But then God comes along and says, “Hey, Tammi… let’s go a different way.”

And I’m like, “Lord, I love You, but I’m pretty comfortable right here.”

So I dig in my heels.

Or I start negotiating like I’m at a yard sale.

“God, I’ll follow You… but could we keep it on my schedule? Maybe use my plan? And let me bring my snacks.”

Meanwhile, Jesus is simply saying,

“Trust Me.

I’ve got something better.”

I’ve realized that every morning gives me a choice.

I can wake up clinging to my own plans…

Or I can pray the words of Psalm 143:

“Show me where to walk, for I give myself to You.”

That’s a risky prayer.

Because sometimes God leads us somewhere unexpected.

Sometimes He changes our plans, stretches our faith, or asks us to trust Him before we understand where He’s taking us.

But I’ve learned something.

Peace doesn’t come from having the route mapped out.

It comes from knowing the One who’s leading the way.

The tighter I grip, the more anxious I become.

The deeper I trust, the more joy I find.

Because joy isn’t found in controlling the path.

It’s found in walking it with Jesus.

So maybe today…

Loosen your grip a little.

Say “yes” a little quicker.

Ask God to show you where to walk.

And be just spontaneous enough to let Jesus lovingly interrupt your routine.

You may discover His plans are even better than yours.
