Psalm 30:11 — You have turned my mourning into joyful dancing. You have taken away my clothes of mourning and clothed me with joy.

The strange thing about inner battles is how quiet they can be.

Nobody knows you’re in one.

And if you’ve ever seen Rend Collective live, you know it’s anything but quiet. The atmosphere is pure, contagious joy.

But behind the laughter and music, frontman Chris Llewellyn was fighting a battle with depression for years. That hidden struggle eventually became the heartbeat of their song, “Fight of My Life.”

At first, Chris hesitated to share it. It felt too raw.

But then he realized something every great leader eventually learns:

People don’t just need songs for the mountaintops. They need someone to put words to the valley.

Sometimes the bravest thing we can do is drop the mask and admit we’re struggling.

Not because we have everything figured out, but because somebody else may need to know they’re not alone.

That’s what makes Psalm 30:11 so beautiful.

David says God takes our mourning and turns it into dancing. He takes off the clothes of mourning and clothes us with joy.

But notice something important:

God doesn’t pretend the mourning never happened.

He redeems it.

The pain becomes part of the story, but it doesn’t get the final word.

God does.

That’s why a song born out of a deep struggle can still be filled with such incredible joy. It isn’t pretending the battle doesn’t exist.

It’s declaring that the battle isn’t bigger than God.

And Chris has also been open about therapy, counseling, and asking for help. That’s an important reminder that reaching out isn’t a sign of weakness.

Sometimes asking for help is one of the bravest steps of faith we can take.

So if you’re fighting a quiet battle today, don’t stay in the shadows.

Tell someone.

Ask for help.

Take the next step.

You don’t have to pretend you’re okay when you’re not.

Because the God who meets you in the middle of your deepest mourning is also the God who can bring joy into places you thought would always be heavy.

Your mourning may be part of your story.

But it doesn’t have to be the end of it.

A MOMENT TO REFLECT

  • Have you ever gone through a difficult season that other people didn’t know you were experiencing?
  • Why do you think we’re sometimes afraid to let others see our struggles?
  • What does it mean to you that God doesn’t erase our pain but can redeem it?
  • Who is someone you could reach out to if you’re carrying a quiet battle right now?
  • Where have you seen God bring unexpected joy into a difficult season of your life?

L Y R I C S

Kickstart my heart
Take my soul to the O.R.
Cause I can’t find a pulse, can’t find the beat

Flatlined all the time
Checking on my vital signs
I can’t even stand the sight of me

It was hard to find You in the pain
But it’s harder now that I can’t feel a thing
Don’t know how to find my fire again
But I need You now

I need You to be my joy
This is the fight of my life
Gotta keep looking for the light
I’m in a war from my mind
Oh I need You in the fight of my life

I’ll search for something more
Show me all Your colours, Lord
Cause I can’t live my life in monochrome

Gotta go full send to the end
Right through hell and back again
God don’t make me have to go there alone

It was hard to find You in the pain
But it’s harder now that I can’t feel a thing
Don’t know how to find my fire again
But I need You now

I need you to be my joy
This is the fight of my life
I’ve gotta keep looking for the light
I’m in a war for my mind
Oh i need you in the fight of my life

I’ve gotta win this
No time for quitting
I’ve been up against the ropes but now I’m swinging

I can’t lose this
No I won’t give in
I’ve been knocked down on the canvas
Now I’m rising, rising, rising
