Isaiah 55:11 — It is the same with My word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it.

She almost didn’t find it.

There was no spotlight on it. No labeled box. As she searched through the closet, she pulled a stack of old blankets down, one by one, until something hard and flat slid forward and landed in her lap.

It was her grandmother’s Bible.

The leather was the color of coffee left in the pot too long. It was cracked at the edges, soft in the middle. The spine sagged under strips of tape that had yellowed after decades.

She carried it to the kitchen table and sat there for a moment, just running her fingers over the cover. Then she opened it.

It was beautiful in the way only old things can be. The pages were soft as tissue. Corners were bent from years of folding.

And then the names.

There were dozens. Scrawled in the margins. Squeezed into the white space between verses. A cousin she hadn’t thought of in years. A neighbor who passed away before she was born. A church friend from decades ago.

Every name was written by a verse. A promise. It was like her grandmother had gone through the whole Bible and decided that no one she loved was going to leave this earth without being prayed for according to God’s Word.

She felt tears come before she even realized it. She took it home for safekeeping, and that night, she opened her own Bible.

It had clean pages and plenty of white space.

So, she started writing names and started praying.

And here’s the part that gets me—some Bibles are read through, while others are prayed through. If you believe prayer is powerful, imagine just how much more powerful it is to pray for people according to God’s word.

Because God’s word will not come back empty-handed.

Isaiah 55:11 – “So shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.”

The storm rolled in just before dawn. The kind that makes the sky turn black and where the wind slaps you sideways. The kind that makes you wonder if this is how it ends.

Peter had known storms. He had fished these waters his whole life. But this one? This one had teeth. The boat groaned with every wave, and the air tightened with fear.

Then someone saw it. Out on the water—a figure. Walking. Coming closer. It was Jesus.

At first, no one dared to speak. They just stared. Somewhere behind him, someone whispered, “It’s a ghost,” but Peter leaned forward. He needed to be sure. He had to know.

Then a voice cut through the fear: “Take heart. It is I.”

Peter locked onto it. That voice… it sounded like hope.

His heart jumped. “Lord, if it is You,” he called, “command me to come.” Because deep down, he knew. If Jesus said the word, he would have something to stand on. The wind did not have to stop. The waves did not have to calm. If Jesus commanded it, the water would hold.

Then came the answer. One word.

“Come.”

And somehow, that word was heavier than the storm. Peter stepped out of the boat, and impossibly, the waves beneath him felt like solid ground.

It was not courage that held Peter up. It was not even faith in himself. It was obedience to the voice of the One who called him. That voice has authority. It does not need a life raft or a better forecast. It just needs to speak.

Some of us spend our whole lives waiting for the storm to pass before we take a step. But peace is not the absence of trouble. It is the presence of His word in the middle of it.

So open the Bible. Sit with it. Wait for His voice. Let His word come first. Not your will, nor your timing. And when you find a promise that speaks straight into your chaos, plant your feet. You can hold onto it like it is solid ground.

Because it is.

“So shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.”

Isaiah 55:11

The extra hours I worked at Anytime Fitness in West Monroe were supposed to help me save for school, but God had more in mind.

One day, a young woman, about my age, walked into the office with a quick question. We chatted briefly, and as she turned to leave, I felt a nudge from God: invite her to church.

I almost dismissed it. Would it be awkward? Would I come across the wrong way? But the thought stayed.

So, I leaned forward and said, “Hey, you should come to our young adult service sometime.”

She smiled and mentioned how busy work kept her but said she might come someday. I assumed that would be the end of it, but a few weeks later, there she was—sitting with a friend in the back at our Tuesday night group.

That first night, she sat quietly, taking it all in. Week after week, she returned, growing more engaged each time. Over time, I saw her walls come down. She started attending our Saturday morning Bible study, asking questions, and diving into the conversations.

Something shifted as she shared her story and allowed herself to be vulnerable. She wanted more than just answers—she wanted hope. The day she placed her faith in Jesus and was baptized, I watched with tears in my eyes.

That was years ago. Today, she is married to a godly man and raising a beautiful daughter. Together, they are passionate about missions and helping others grow in their faith.

It humbles me to think God used something so small. One invitation. One step of faith. He took it and turned it into something eternal.

Sometimes, God uses small moments to work out His big plans. Do not underestimate the power of reaching out. When you feel prompted to act, lean into it. You never know whose story might change because of your courage to speak.
